Foods B: Baking Course Description

Foods B: Baking – This class is designed for beginning bakers. Students will practice measuring and mixing techniques, decorating skills, dessert presentation, preparation of a variety of delicious recipes, cleaning, safety & sanitation, etiquette, and contributing to the household. Here are some of the delicious treats that students baked this year: cookies, breads, muffins, rolls, apple oatmeal crisps (a la mode), pies, quiches, double-layer cakes, frosted cupcakes, baked pastas, molten lava cakes (a la mode), brownies, scones, pizza, cheesecake tartlets, etc. Note: We do not make anything with nuts.

 

People often ask, “What is the difference between Foods B: Baking and Foods 1?”  In Baking, we only BAKE and do very little cooking (unless it’s making pizza sauce from scratch).

 

In both classes, student may have an opportunity to attend a field trip to the International Culinary School at the Art Institute of CA – San Francisco (for suggested donation). Traditionally, there are two baking competitions: Holiday Cookie Bake-Off in December and a Cupcake Competition in the spring. Mrs. Chung’s teaching philosophy is to make learning FUN and RELEVANT.
